17 tons

Tohono Chul Park, site of agave-getting. Generally aspirational, garden-wise.

Yesterday some guy dumped 17 tons of 3/8” gravel on the east side of our house. This happened of our own volition. What were we thinking?! Well. We’re tired of our big dusty backyard and too lazy environmentally conscious to grow grass in the desert. Also, Petra has turned into an insatiable fetch-player, and she kicks up a hell of a lot of dust in the process. We desperately need ground cover.

Last week we planted four native trees (two mesquites, two palo verdes) and I’m going to sally forth and pick up some other hearty native-type things tomorrow – agaves and the like. The backyard rejuvenation process also involves a deck of some kind and a sail cloth shade. Maybe I’ll post photos here, if the results aren’t embarrassing.
